Devika began her artistic journey as a teenager, traveling the length and breadth of India, documenting indigenous cultures. After this sojourn around the country, she arrived in Bombay with an art book in hand and a visceral creative hunger inspired by the mesmerizing landscapes and the soulful conversations during her travels. Here she met her mentor and worked in graphic design, while simultaneously expressing her own personal journey through art.
Devika’s artwork depicts the different realms of soul consciousness and stems from the heart chakra. The evolution of the human soul and the undying strength of the female spirit are themes that are often synchronized in her art.
She has been a globetrotting nomad for the most part of her life and this has allowed her to absorb the intricacies of many diverse cultures. Through her life experiences, there has also been an inner evolution, which has unveiled the cloak of Maya (the cosmic illusion that the physical world is real) from her being. This clearly reflects in her art pieces, giving the observer a sneak peak into a surreal and divine world; a world that she often calls home.
Devika’s graphics dance on paper with an unapologetic oomph, often telling beautifully complex narratives that transcend the physical plain. She is certainly a once in a generation, maverick artist who constantly breaks the boundaries of visual art.
